Hospice Services

Hospice care is a special kind of care. It is not curative. Its primary goal is to help relieve the physical symptoms experienced by those with a terminal illness while providing the emotional, psychological and spiritual support that these patients and their families need.

Hospice is a holistic and coordinated program of care. It honors the unique physical, social, emotional and spiritual needs of each child, adult and family who receives care. The emphasis is on providing the highest quality of care so that patients and their families may enjoy their remaining time together. A primary component of this care involves helping patients remain in their homes with the people they love. Medicare, Medicaid and private health insurance cover hospice care costs for most patients who meet specified criteria.

Services/Staff Available:

  • Nurses, consulting physicians, medical social workers, certified nursing assistants, therapists and chaplains who provide individualized skilled care.
  • Visiting nurses who are on call 24 hours a day to help patients and their families with issues that may arise.
  • Specially trained volunteers who can provide emotional support and short term respite care, perform errands and tasks, and help with some physical needs of patients.
  • Bereavement program staff and volunteers who help patients and their families deal with issues of grief and loss. Support groups (for both adults and for children through our SoundCareKids Program) and short-term bereavement counseling services are available for surviving loved ones.
