Advocacy Structure

Under direction of the Office of the President/CEO, the Providence Health & Services Government Affairs program is carried out through Regional Government Affairs coordinators, System Office Government Affairs staff and our government affairs liaisons at Providence institutions/service areas. Working with PHS leadership, physicians and others with specific expertise, Providence Government Affairs staff monitor and analyze legislative and regulatory policy proposals, develop positions on issues affecting our communities and communicate with elected officials and regulatory agencies.

Collectively, we work with a unified voice to:

• Improve access to health care through public policies that provide coverage for the poor;     
• Ensure appropriate reimbursement with a positive affect on our operating margins;     
• Protect our mission and market position in response to the policy objectives of our competitors;     
• Lower the burden of regulatory costs imposed on our operations, and;     
• Assist operating executives in planning successful operating strategies and tactics that respond successfully to policy mandates and ensure continued compliance.
