Complications Tracked

 
  • Pulmonary (lung) complications:
    Lung failure; aspiration; empyema (infection in chest cavity); pneumonia (infection in lung tissue); pulmonary edema (fluid in lung tissue); require tracheostomyl; and pulmonary embolism (blood clot to lung).

  • Gastrointestinal (GI tract) complications:
    Prolonged ileus (intestinal paralysis); bleeding; mechanical bowel obstruction; liver failure; and anastomotic leak.

  • Wound complications:
    Deep infection; superficial infection; require reoperation; hematoma (blood collection); and dehiscence (separation of surgical closure).

  • Arrhythmias:
    Irregular heart beats.

  • Other complications (inclusive):
    Kidney; psychiatric; heart (except arrhythmias); stroke; thrombophlebitis (blood clot in limb vein); septicemia (infection in blood stream); and reoperation.
