Autologous stem cell transplant health care team

 
Overview
Dr. Stacy Lewis is a graduate of Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri and received her M.D. from Washington University in 1988. She completed an internal medicine residency and a combined  fellowship in hematology and medical oncology at Wilford  Hall USAF Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas, where she was later a staff oncologist and Director of the Bone Marrow Transplant Program. She has been the Medical Director of Providence Portland Medical Center's Stem Cell Transplant Program since June 1998.  In addition to her position as medical director, she is in private hematology/oncology practice at Pacific Oncology.

Transplant Nurse Practitioner

Lyn Glenn received her Master’s in Nursing from Washington State University and is a certified Family Nurse Practitioner. She has worked in Oncology at PPMC for the past 14 years and has been involved with the Autologous Stem Cell Transplant Program at Providence since its beginning in 1993.
                                     
The transplant nurse practitioner meets all patients prior to admission into the program and assists the transplant physician with most aspects of their care.

Transplant Nurse Coordinator
The transplant coordinators will work with the transplant team, including caregivers, to ensure that all tests and treatments are planned, scheduled, and carried out. They will help coordinate between home, office and hospital care. They will teach you many things about your transplant care and will be one of your primary resources.

Nursing Care
Experienced oncology RNs in the clinics and hospital will be responsible for planning care with patients and families. These nurses have special training in providing care for patients who are receiving a stem cell transplant including chemotherapy administration and managing potential side effects.

The ASCT Clinical Research Associate is a certified clinical research professional with special emphasis on stem cell transplant. She is responsible for program data management, patient follow-up, and submission of information to the Autologous Bone Marrow Transplant Registry.

Social Worker
Krista Nelson, MSW, is available to help with financial concerns, family support and the emotional aspects of treatment, (503) 215-3204.

Cancer Counseling
A cancer counselor is available to all patients and can be seen anytime before, during or after transplant. This service is provided by Providence at no charge.

Dietitian
An oncology dietitian will meet with all transplant patients prior to their transplant. The dietician is very knowledgeable about the nutritional requirements of patients undergoing treatment and can answer any questions about diet.

Pharmacists
A pharmacist is available on the hospital oncology unit (5K) throughout the day and evening. He/she is experienced with chemotherapy and other medications used during transplant.

Physical Therapists  
A physical therapist will see all transplant patients if hospitalization is part of the treatment plan. They will develop an exercise program to maintain strength during treatment.

Pastoral Care
A chaplain is always available at the hospital. Priests are available to give communion as appropriate.
