Dr. Chiayi Chen earned her doctoral degree in nursing from UCLA with a focus in health services research in 2007. Prior to joining Providence, she was a research nurse at UCLA and Cedars-Sinai Medical Center.

The goals of the MS registry are to obtain an accurate estimate of the number of patients with MS in the region and to form a database for MS research and advocacy. Through the development of the MS Network, we hope to share up-to-date information with healthcare professionals to optimize medical care for individuals living with MS, especially underserved patients who have limited access to specialized care for MS.

Kay Hartley has extensive experience working with patients who live with chronic illnesses of all kinds.  For the past several years she has enjoyed focusing on those with multiple sclerosis, helping with patient management and education as well as coordinating the research being done at the Providence Multiple Sclerosis Center.

Summer Carter earned her MSPH degree in Epidemiology from the University of South Florida in Tampa, FL in 2002.  Prior to joining the Providence MS Center, she was the Clinical Research Administrator for USF’s Parkinson’s Disease and Movement Disorders Center.  She has extensive experience conducting and managing all aspects of clinical research trials, and has been involved in neurological research since her graduation from the University of Florida in 1997.

Chad Parks serves as a clinical research coordinator for the Providence Brain Institute. He received his Bachelor's degree in Chemistry from the University of Missouri Kansas City. Chad currently coordinates several trials in MS and Alzheimer’s disease. He has previous experience in pediatric vaccine trials as well as studies in drug safety.

Tamela Stuchiner earned her Master of Arts degree in Sociology from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro in 2005, focusing in data analysis, research methods and thesis study in direct-to-consumer advertising of prescription pharmaceuticals. Prior to joining the Providence Brain Institute, Tamela worked in children’s health research at OHSU and the North Carolina Division of Public Health. She currently manages the Pacific Northwest MS Registry and the Providence Stroke database, as well as working on various quality improvement and research projects for all programs within the in for the Brain Institute.

Jessica Hearn currently is a 3rd year student at Portland State University working towards a bachelor degree in Psychology. She has been working with the Providence Brain Institute research team since 2005, and acts as clinical trial coordinator on several active MS trials. Jessica is also a research assistant for the Pacific Northwest MS Registry Project.
