Nine in a Row for Providence: New National “Top 10” Recognition for Health Care Integration

Feb. 3, 2009

PORTLAND, Ore. — Once again, Providence is one of the best of the best.

SDI, a national health care research firm, announced that Providence Health & Services – Oregon Region has, for the ninth consecutive year, attained a “top 10” ranking on its list of the 100 most highly integrated health care networks. Providence is:

  • seventh in the nation,
  • fourth in the West, and
  • first in Oregon.

SDI analyzed the performance and integration of 570 health systems across the nation to compile the “Top 100” list.

“Providence is proud to be recognized once again as a leader in integrated health care services,” said Terry Smith, chief operating officer for Providence in Oregon. “This honor shows the commitment our physicians, nurses, caregivers and employees have made to provide a connected experience of care built on a foundation of clinical excellence.”

To prepare the “Top 100” rankings, SDI evaluates a system’s ability to operate as a unified organization in each of eight categories: integration, integrated technology, contractual capabilities, outpatient utilization, financial stability, services and access, hospital utilization, and physicians. High scores in these areas can be indicators of increased patient satisfaction and a more streamlined care experience.

The rankings for the survey – formerly known as the Verispan IHN 100 – are published in the Jan. 26 edition of Modern Healthcare, and complete survey results are available at www.sdihealth.com.
