WHAT: The expression of creativity through selflessness inspired the prints of Eli Jimenez-Chavez, now on display in the Providence Milwaukie Community Gallery.

WHEN: On display through Oct. 14.

WHERE: Providence Milwaukie Community Gallery
Providence Milwaukie Hospital
10150 SE 32nd Avenue, 2nd Floor
Milwaukie

DETAILS: Providence Milwaukie Community Gallery welcomes an exhibit of prints by artist, philosopher and writer Eli Jimenez-Chavez. Born and raised in New Mexico, Jimenez-Chavez draws his inspiration from family traditions in stone and wood sculpture as well as in gold and silver jewelry crafting. He has studied with internationally known Kaz Kathashi and the late Lloyd Reynolds and pays tribute to his teacher, master print maker Gene Flores. In expressing the satisfaction Eli achieves through his art, he cites a quote, “Fulfillment comes from selflessness,” by Chinese poet Lao Tzu “Devoting yourself to the art takes you away from yourself,” says Eli, “and allows creativity to emerge.”

Providence Milwaukie Community Gallery was created to demonstrate Providence’s commitment to diversity. “Cultural diversity” refers to the differences in what we’ve learned and the choices we’ve made in life, such as the languages we speak, our religious or political beliefs, our family or cultural traditions, our level of education or income, and our marital status.

The Providence Milwaukie Community Gallery changes quarterly to showcase the diversity in our community through the works of Clackamas County artists. All proceeds from sales go directly to the exhibiting artist. The gallery is curated by the Arts Action Alliance of Clackamas County.
