WHAT: Strong geometric patterns and bright colors highlight the constructive art of graphic designer Ellen McFadden at the Providence Milwaukie Community Gallery.

6:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily.
DETAILS: Providence Milwaukie Community Gallery welcomes an exhibit of paintings by Gladstone resident Ellen McFadden. McFadden has been an artist for 70 years — but this is her first art exhibit. At the age of 80 and after a long and successful career as a graphic designer, she decided it was time. Constructive art is her focus. “I see the two-dimensional surface as the basis for tension and interaction with shape and the four outside edges. Color is a part of that interaction. Perhaps that vision comes from my years of graphic design, working with a defined two-dimensional space and its restrictions.” McFadden graduated from the Portland Art Museum School with a degree in Fine Arts in 1950. Her student assignment was helping Yeffe Kimball catalog the museum’s newly acquired Rasmussen collection of Northwest Coast Art.
Providence Milwaukie Hospital recognizes that art can help to soothe and nourish the human spirit. Providence is pleased to showcase the work of our community’s diverse and talented artists in the Providence Milwaukie Community Gallery as a demonstration of that belief. All proceeds from sales go directly to the exhibiting artist. The gallery is curated by the Clackamas County Arts Alliance.
