State-of-the-art digital imaging arrives
at Providence Seaside Hospital

Dr. Jeff Blanche demonstrates Providence Seaside Hospital’s new digital imaging equipment.

A new computerized diagnostic imaging system, installed at Providence Seaside Hospital over the summer, is providing higher-quality images for patients and faster access to images for physicians.

The new system captures images electronically, similar to the way a digital camera works, without using film. In addition to capturing higher quality images, the new system allows images to be manipulated to improve their focus and clarity even further.

Instead of waiting for films to arrive, radiologists and emergency department physicians now can access images by computers just moments after the technologist releases them. Radiologists can review images on the same computers they use to dictate reports. Physicians then can pull up their patients’ new images and reports, as well as previous images, on their own computers.

With no film in the equation, there is no longer a risk of lost films or film-processing errors, improving accuracy and service for patients. All studies are stored in secure digital archives.
