Providence Medford Celebrates its 100th Robotic Surgery
7/09/08
Providence Medford Medical Center is celebrating the completion of the 100th robotic surgical procedure. This technology is being used for prostate cancer, kidney cancer and GYN procedures. Treatment of lung cancer will be added later this year.
There are eight Medford physicians trained on the da Vinci Surgical System for urology, gynecology, and kidney procedures. Two of these physicians are now nationally listed on the Intuitive Surgical website for having completed more than 20 robotic procedures: Dr. Bruce Barrows for urology and Dr. Dan Tomlinson for gynecology.
Robotic technology offers surgeons enhanced detail and precision for operations performed through very small incisions, resulting in less pain, less blood loss and shorter recovery times for patients. Providence Medford Medical Center is pleased to be the first and only facility in southern Oregon and northern California to offer robotic surgery so patients can receive advanced medical treatment close to home.
