Human Habitat Model
The human habitat model at Providence Mother Joseph Care Center addresses the needs of the residents in ways that change the approach to care in the traditional medical model of nursing homes. We accomplish this by working together in "neighborhoods." These neighborhoods encourage interactive exchange between residents and staff. By emphasizing the human habitat model, we provide a model of care that puts the resident at the middle of the "plan" and encompasses dignity and compassion as the essence of values--integral with the Sisters of Providence mission and core values.
We impact the world of long term care by:
- Striving to eliminate the pain of loneliness, helplessness and boredom of our residents.
- Providing spontaneous and varied activities including companion animals, gardening, intergenerational activities among children and residents, outings, games, etc.
- Fostering independence for residents by encouraging choice in their lives.
- Recognizing the power of interpersonal relationships among residents, families, volunteers and staff working and living in our neighborhoods.
