Grief and the Holidays
A series of four educational, interactive evenings related to grief's impact on the holiday season.  Each session offers its own unique insights and does not depend upon attendance at other sessions.  Feel free to attend any or all sessions.

Session 1: Where to Begin
Wednesday, November 18, 6:00 - 7:30 p.m.
How do holidays and other celebrations impact the grieving process?  Review the nature of and common experiences of grief and discuss self care in the midst of this busy season.

Session 2: The Gift of Ritual
Wednesday, December 2, 6:00 - 7:30 p.m.
The idea of ritual will be explored - how can we develop unique rituals for ourselves that help us remember our loved one and contribute to our self care.

Session 3: Creating a Memory Keepsake
Wednesday, December 16, 6:00 - 7:30 p.m.
(Children are invited and encouraged to attend this session with their families)
Grief invites us to process our feelings - through internal reflection, the spoken or written work and through creativity.

Session 4: The Days to Come
Wednesday, December 30, 6:00 - 7:30 p.m.
Examine strategies and attitudes to make meaning out of loss and live with grief over time.



Safe Crossings/Camp Erin® Groups and Events

Parent-Child Group
Support group for children (ages 5 -12) and their parents.  Children share feelings through talk, art and play while parents meet separately to cope with their own grief and support their children.

Hospice Volunteer Training

Volunteer Core Training
Core training is a four-hour training that provides an overview of hospice and volunteer opportunities. It prepares volunteers to attend training for patient care, bereavement, Camp Erin, and other volunteer programs, as well as to provide office support at Providence Hospice of Seattle. Core trainings are held on Tuesday evenings from 5:00 - 9:00 p.m. at the Providence Hospice of Seattle office. You must submit an application and participate in an orientation interview before attending this training.

Patient Care Volunteer Training
Patient Care Volunteer training is a two-day (9:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m.) weekend training designed to prepare volunteers to work directly with hospice patients and families. Volunteers must attend Core training prior to attending Patient Care Volunteer training. 

Upcoming 2010 Patient Care Volunteer training dates: January 23-24, March 20-21, May 15-16, June 26-27, September 18-19, November 6-7 


Bereavement Volunteer Training
Bereavement Volunteer training is a two-day (9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.) training designed to prepare volunteers to support people who are grieving the death of a loved one. Volunteers must attend Core training prior to attending Bereavement Volunteer training. Call 206-320-4000 for more information.
