Recognizing Culture and Diversity Is Important and Necessary Providence Hospice of Seattle is a culturally diverse and culturally sensitive organization. We understand that culture shapes choices for life support and care, and we strive to work with you to understand your cultural and religious end-of-life issues. Our Coordinator for Diversity and Multi-Cultural Outreach, Rev. Gwendolyn Coates, is personally committed to communicating culturally sensitive information. She actively seeks to bring information and awareness to diverse and multi-cultural groups through information sessions, community events and workshops. Providence Hospice of Seattle recognizes and respects the rights and needs of all patients for uninterrupted care and service delivery. We encourage open and sensitive discussion so that our staff and volunteers understand certain cultural and religious needs of hospice patients. We also recognize and respect the religious and cultural beliefs of our employees. We seek to make end-of-life, palliative care, and resource and planning information available to all people of all ethnicities. In an effort to expand our outreach efforts, we offer a document that serves to assist our patients in planning for the future, called Five Wishes®. This can be filled out without the assistance of a lawyer and is intended to help clarify dreams and issues for patients with advanced illness. We also partner with churches, organizations and religious groups through health fairs, festivals and other unique opportunities. For more information on our Diversity and Multi-Cultural Outreach Program, please contact Rev. Coates at gwendolyn.coates@providence.org or 206-389-4331. We extend an invitation to all cultural groups, races, ethnicities and religions to contact us to host community events or receive more information. We invite you to return to this page for updates on open-to-the-public sessions and workshops. Providence Hospice of Seattle does not discriminate in any way, based on an ethnicity, religion or financial circumstances.
