Prospective volunteers: Volunteering with hospice Volunteers are the heart of hospice, and there are lots of ways to support Providence Hospice of Seattle as a volunteer. Patient care volunteers support our patients and their families by providing companionship, respite care, transportation, light household assistance, and more. Patient care volunteers are needed in all areas of King County, but we have an URGENT need for patient care volunteers to serve patients in south and east King County. In addition, we are now accepting applications for animal-assisted activities/therapy volunteer teams (handlers and dogs). There are many other ways to support Providence Hospice of Seattle as a hospice volunteer. For a complete list of volunteer opportunities, please check out our current volunteer opportunities. How to apply If you're interested in becoming a volunteer with Providence Hospice of Seattle, please complete and submit a volunteer application. You can download a Word version of the volunteer application and e-mail it to us, or download a PDF version of the form and mail it to: Providence Hospice of Seattle Attn: Volunteer Services Coordinator 425 Pontius Avenue North, Suite 300 Seattle, WA 98109
To learn more about our volunteer program and request an application, call 206-320-4000 or 888-782-4445 (toll-free) and ask for Volunteer Services. Once we've received your application, we'll contact you to schedule an orientation interview. Please note that volunteers who are interested in working with patients and their families must not have had a personal loss within the last 12 months. Attending volunteer training To become a hospice volunteer, you must first attend volunteer Core training. Core training is a four-hour training session held monthly at Providence Hospice of Seattle. It provides overviews of hospice history, philosophy, and services, as well as hospice volunteer opportunities. To be eligible for Core training, you must submit a volunteer application and participate in an orientation interview. Once you've successfully completed Core training, you are eligible to attend other hospice volunteer trainings, including Patient Care, Bereavement, and Camp Erin. For example, our two-day Patient Care training program prepares volunteers to work directly with patients and families as a Patient Care or Transitions volunteer. After successfully completing Patient Care training, volunteers commit to providing up to four hours of volunteer service per week for one year.
