LIKE THE NEW GROWTH OF SPRING,
PROVIDENCE HOOD RIVER IS GROWING
May 20, 2008
HOOD RIVER, Ore. – Amidst spring time shoots and blooms, sunshine and warm weather, Providence Hood River Memorial Hospital is beginning to grow, from the ground up, right before your eyes.
If you drive by Providence Hood River Memorial Hospital, you can literally see the growth. A 40-ton construction crane, standing 12 stories high, and capable of lifting 80,000 pounds, is currently raising massive steel beams into place. It is building a backbone for the hospital’s 74,000 square foot expansion and renovation project.
The new three-story tall hospital wing will expand radiology, family birthing and surgery departments, and will make room for expanded emergency services. The next step in construction is to pour concrete floors, and begin building new hospital walls.
With completion of a new central utility plan, the demolition of several buildings, and construction under way of the new addition, changes on campus are clearly visible.
“We’re beginning to see the light at the end of the tunnel and getting excited about providing more quality services for our communities,” said Ty W. Erickson, chief executive.
The new addition doubles the available square footage of the hospital. After its completion, the current facility will be completely modernized. Departments will be expanded and, in some cases, relocated to meet growth projections of 27 percent in Columbia Gorge communities in the next 20 years. The “new” facility will meet the needs of patients and their families while providing a more efficient space for physicians and hospital staff.
Construction is on schedule with the new addition completed in early 2009 and modernization completed by the end of 2009.
“We’re proud to be growing with our community,” adds Erickson. “It’s the right thing to do, and it’s the right time to do it.”
