The goal of the current hospital expansion:
- Celebrate Providence Hood River Memorial Hospital's history in the community.
- Better serve the needs of growing Columbia Gorge Service area.
- Enhance and expand our professional health care services.
- Improve privacy and convenience for patients and their families.
- Improve way- finding for patients and visitors at the hospital.
- Enhance environmental stewardship in building construction.
Highlights of the 74,000 square foot improvement:
- $50 million expansion project - mostly underwritten by Providence Hood River Memorial Hospital
- Hospital Foundation goals of "The One Campaign": raise $3.5 in community capital support in 2008
- 2007-2008 - Phase One: Addition of 37,000 square feet of new space to the existing hospital, including expanded entryway and building way-faring, surgery services, emergency services, Family birth services and radiology.
- 2009: Phase Two: Modernization of 37,000 additional square feet.
- New pedestrian friendly walkways, leading to a grand entry plaza on 12th street; parking lot with better traffic flow.
Service Expansion details:
- Relocation and expansion of the Family Birth Center to include a caesarean section suite, four labor/deliver/recovery rooms, four private postpartum rooms, a nursery, two triage/exam rooms and support space.
- Expansion of the surgery department through addition of 18 new private patient rooms for pre and postoperative use.
- Addition of a new state of the art operating room.
- Addition of a new anesthesia recovery unit with six beds and a private patient family room.
- Addition of a new 10-bed rehabilitation unit providing comprehensive services for patients with physical, functional thinking, swallowing or communication impairments.
- An expanded Emergency Department with three new private exam rooms, a new waiting area and secure lock down room. Existing treatment rooms will be remodeled to enhance patient and visitor privacy.
- Diagnostic Imaging will be expanded and consolidated into one area. It will include a dedicated Women's Center for mammography, bone density and ultrasound.
