RUNNERS MIX COSTUMES, SHORT SLEEVES
AND WINTER WEAR AT THE FIRST
PROVIDENCE HARVEST DASH

Oct. 20, 2008

HOOD RIVER, Ore. – Runners and walkers – some in tank tops, some in winter clothes and others in Halloween costumes – enthusiastically braved chilly winds on the Hood River waterfront early Saturday morning for the first annual Providence Harvest Dash.

Sponsored by Providence Hood River Memorial Hospital, the Providence Harvest Dash, a 10K and 5K run and a family fun walk, drew 150 participants to Hood River’s Event Site during Harvest Fest weekend. Runners took off along the banks of the Columbia River, across Oak Street, through Hood River neighborhoods, along Indian Creek Trail, before returning to the finish line at Harvest Fest.

Participants in the family fun walk included moms with stroller-riding kids in costumes, dogs in costumes, senior citizens in Providence t-shirts participating with walkers, and even a recent surgery patient, who just one week ago was in Providence Hood River.

Among the winners on stage collecting commemorative medals were a woman runner dressed as a duck and another dressed as a honey bee. Winners received pumpkins, pumpkin pies and commemorative Harvest Dash medals.

The event was the idea of Providence Hood River’s chief executive Ty W. Erickson, who is an avid runner. “We were so excited to see so many people come out in our first year,” said Erickson. “There was great community spirit at the event. It was fun s to celebrate the healthy lifestyle that we cherish here in Hood River.”
