As a not-for-profit health care ministry, Providence Health & Services in Oregon - and in the Columbia Gorge - embraces our responsibility to respond to the needs of people in our communities, especially the poor and vulnerable. This commitment to our Mission began more than 150 years ago when the Sisters of Providence arrived in Oregon to provide compassionate care for orphans, elderly, miners and other people in the Northwest.Today Providence professionals are committed to continuing our long tradition of providing exceptional medical care. Just like the pioneering Sisters before us, we're here to serve our communities.
At Providence Hood River, we strive to understand the needs of our community and what we can do to make a difference. Every three years, we conduct a formal community needs assessment to measure the greatest needs in our communities. Providence Hood River focuses our community benefits dollars to specifically address the needs identified and is committed to providing excellent care to everyone.
Our commitment is why Providence provided more than $145 million in community benefits to the Oregon region. Of this, $3.3 million went directly to our Columbia Gorge communities.
Our commitment is why Providence provided nearly $166 million in community benefit donations to the Oregon region. Of this, Providence Hood River Memorial Hospital provided $4.1 million in community benefits during 2008, including $2.6 million in free or reduced-cost care to patients in need and $1.5 million in community support to nonprofit organizations and service agencies.
Providence Hood River’s giving is significantly higher in 2009 than previous years. Additional Community Benefits funding is limited for the duration of 2009.
