There for the day-to-day, as well as the unexpected

In the early '80s, Noma Hanlon set out to create a company that caters to clients’ marketing and communications needs. Over time, the firm took advantage of evolving technology to expand beyond print media to include digital design deliverables like Web sites, Flash demos and other interactive design solutions.
“I always wondered how good our health plan was,” Noma says. “No one had ever had a serious injury here to put it to the test.”
Then, last summer, a long-time employee was out on a bike ride, enjoying the long days and warm weather, when an unexpected accident sent her to the emergency room with multiple fractures in her back and ribs, a partially collapsed lung and road rash. A helmet saved her from head injury, but was cracked in several places. She was treated at a trauma center for several days, only to be readmitted for another week with multiple blood clots in her lungs. Her recovery took months, but she returned to work full-time in late 2008. She also ran up $50,000 in medical bills, including emergency care, two hospital stays, medication, physician fees and her ambulance ride.
Through it all, Noma says Providence Health Plan provided exactly what they needed: clear information on bills, coverage for the accident and its aftermath, and helpful, friendly customer service ready to explain any questions.
