Pharmacy Riders

Prescription drug coverage can be added to your medical benefits for medications listed on the Providence Health Plan formulary. Our formulary is a list of Food and Drug Administration (FDA)-approved prescription generic, brand-name and specialty medications. Benefits include:

  • 90-day pharmacy transition period for prescriptions that normally require prior authorization.
  • Access to more than 22,000 participating pharmacies at discounted rates – nationwide.
  • Local access to 90-day supplies of maintenance prescription drugs at preferred retail pharmacies, including Costco, Fred Meyer, QFC, Safeway, Walgreens and Yoke's.
  • 90-day supplies of maintenance prescription drugs also available by mail order.

Value Based Prescription Drug Plans

A value drug is one of 20 commonly prescribed, first-line treatments for asthma and other breathing disorders, diabetes, heart disease (high blood pressure, high cholesterol, congestive heart failure) and depression offered at an ultra-low copay on our Value Based Prescription Drug Plans. Other value-based features include:

  • Four-tier drug cards with low copays for value and generic drugs.
  • Higher copays for prescription drugs with a weak evidence base.
  • An annual out-of-pocket maximum for nonformulary and compound drugs.
