Flu Season Restrictions for Patients, Families and Visitors

Providence Regional Medical Center Everett is taking special steps this flu season to protect our patients from flu exposure.

Because pregnant women, young children and other people being treated in our hospital face increased risk if they are exposed to the flu virus, we are implementing patient and visitor precautions at our Colby and Pacific campuses. These precautions are effective until further notice.

What to expect when you come to the hospital

  • Signs will be posted at each entrance listing the current precautions. Because precautions may change over time, please review this web site or the signs each time you visit the hospital and adhere to them while at the hospital.

If you are a patient

  • If you have a fever, cough, runny or stuffy nose, or sore throat, you will be asked to wear a mask to protect others. Masks will be available when you check in for your appointment or procedure.

  • Please limit your visitors to no more than two at any one time in the hospital. Please let your visitors know of this restriction in advance, and coordinate the timing of their visits.

  • We strongly recommend that children under 12 refrain from visiting the hospital. Please check with your nurse to determine whether you may have visitors under 12.

  • Hospital staff may wear gowns, masks, goggles and gloves and take other precautions to prevent viruses from being spread between patients.

If you are a visitor

  • If you have a fever, you many not enter the hospital, and must wait until you are healthy to visit patients.

  • If you have a cough, runny or stuffy nose, or sore throat, we encourage you to stay home. If you must visit the hospital, you will be asked to wear a mask to protect others. Masks will be available at the nursing stations, and should be put on before you enter a patient room.

  • Each patient may have no more than two visitors in the hospital at any one time. Please schedule a specific visiting time with the patient in advance to ensure there will be no more than two visitors at any given time.

  • Because school-age children have higher rates of exposure to flu, visitors under 12 are strongly discouraged from visiting the hospital. In most cases, they will be restricted from visiting. Please contact the patient's nurse to confirm whether children under 12 will be allowed.

  • There are no visitor restrictions to patients receiving end-of-life care—but we ask those visitors to remain in the patient’s room and take appropriate precautions.

Restrictions for the Providence Pavilion Maternity, Newborn Intensive Care and Pediatric Units

  • Visitors under age 12 are strongly discouraged from visiting the hospital, and in most cases, will be restricted from visiting. Please contact the patient's nurse to confirm whether children under 12 will be allowed.

  • Only two designated support persons per family may attend a birth.

  • Healthy newborns will stay in the same room as their mother to limit potential exposure.

How you can help

  • When visiting the hospital, please be aware of and adhere to all precautions.

  • Refrain from bringing children under age 12 to the hospital.

  • If you are given a mask to wear, please wear it at all times.

  • Make sure to cover your mouth when coughing or sneezing.

  • Wash or gel your hands frequently, especially when you enter and leave a patient room.

  • If you are sick and feel you must be with the patient, you will be asked to wear a mask. You must stay in the patient’s room while in the hospital.
