Pre-Registration
To arrange for your procedure, first call the Admitting Department at 212-3149 where a clerk will take the necessary information to register you for your procedure. Please have your insurance card available when talking with Admitting. The clerk will need this information to process your paperwork.You can also register on-line if it is more than 2 days before your scheduled procedure.
If you live outside the Anchorage area, you can use the toll free number 1-800-520-3112. It is vital for processing the appropriate information concerning your procedure that you pre-register as soon as you know you are scheduled for a procedure.
You may also receive an additional call from a nurse to obtain your medical history.
Insurance Authorization
Most private insurance companies, as well as Medicare, Medicaid, VA, etc., require pre-authorization for surgery or other procedures. Check with your doctor's office to determine if you need to make that call or if someone at the office will do it for you. Pre-authorization must be completed before any scheduled procedure or admission to the hospital. If you do not have medical insurance, the admitting clerk will let you know what steps to take.
Your Privacy
In preparation for your scheduled procedure, you will be asked detailed, personal questions about your medical history. Please be as complete as possible when answering. The information you give helps us provide you with better service and is vital to your safety. Any information you provide is considered private and is carefully safeguarded. The admitting clerk or your nurse will give you information regarding your right to privacy as provided under the Federal HIPAA Law.

Pre-Operative Preparations
Once you have registered with the Admitting Clerk, you need to visit the Pre-op Clinic 1-3 days prior to your surgery or a prcedure that require anesthesia. The pre-op clinic is open from 8am-6pm M-F on a walk in basis. The RN in the Pre-op Clinic will take medical history information, arrange for any testing your doctor wants you to have, and provide detailed education answering your questions. You must speak with the RN in the Pre-op Clinic before your scheduled surgery or an anesthesia assisted procedure to complete preparations for your procedure. Any questions please call 212-6014. If you are to have a procedure in Endoscopy that does not require anesthesia and you haven't had a nurse obtain your medical information, call 212-6184- the Nurse Help Line. The RN there will take your medical history and go over things you should know before your procedure.
