Providence Pharmacist-Assisted Smoking Cessation Class
Based on the American Lung Association’s Freedom From Smoking program, the Providence Pharmacist-Assisted Smoking Cessation Class is designed to help you quit smoking for good. In this award-winning class, you will learn a systematic approach to quitting through behavior modification techniques, coping skills, social support, and information on weight management and stress management.

In addition, a pharmacist will assess your need for medication; eight weeks of nicotine patches, bupropion (Zyban) or varenicline (Chantix) will be provided free to participants who attend the classes. You must have a current primary care physician in order to receive medications during class.

Providence Health Plan members receive a significantly reduced rate on this class series.

Register online or call the Providence Resource Line at 503-574-6595 or 800-562-8964 for more information.

Free & Clear®
This telephone-based program offers an alternative to smokers who want the support of a structured program but who cannot attend a group class. Free & Clear provides 12 months of stop-smoking support, including scheduled telephone calls from a trained counselor, written materials and a toll-free help line. Depending on your health plan coverage, participants also may receive free or discounted nicotine-replacement therapy.

Providence Health Plan members receive a significantly reduced rate on this program.

Register online or call the Providence Resource Line at 503-574-6595 or 800-562-8964 for more information.

Drug therapies
A number of products, including varenicline (Chantix), bupropion (Zyban) and nicotine-replacement therapy, can reduce cravings and help addicted smokers to quit. Talk to your doctor about whether any of these pharmacologic options is appropriate for you.

Participation in the Providence Pharmacist-Assisted Smoking Cessation Class includes 8 weeks of free medication therapy.

Providence Health Plan members may receive an annual reimbursement of up to $75 for nicotine-replacement patches or the prescription drugs bupropion (Zyban) or varenicline (Chantix). To be eligible for reimbursement, you must successfully complete either a group smoking-cessation class or the phone-based Free & Clear program. Call the Providence Resource Line at 503-574-6595 or 800-562-8964 to receive a reimbursement application.
